Hardenberg (Göttingen)

The Göttingen course at the 36-hole Golf Resort Hardenberg was developed in two stages, with the front nine laid out by Donald Harradine in 1971 and the back nine following sixteen years later, when Hannover-based Wolfgang Siegmann completed the 18-hole design. The David Krause-designed Niedersachsen course followed in 2003.

The Göttingen course measures just over 6,000 metres from the regular tees, playing to a par of 72, with both nines starting out with a par five hole. Water comes into play on a couple of occasions during a round here: a couple of ponds front the green on the par four 6th and an even larger aquatic obstacle lies in the middle of the adjacent fairway on the difficult par four closing hole.

Highlights on the shorter front nine include the left doglegging short par four 3rd and the difficult par five 5th which narrows then veers left late on near the green. On the back nine, the parallel fairways of the 13th and 14th occupy the most northerly part of the property, with the tough water-laden par five 18th bringing play back to the clubhouse for a second time at the end of the round.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
