Haugaland
Located just outside the small town of Sveio in Vestland, Haugaland Golfklubb was founded in 1987 but it took until 2001 before members managed to bring a 9-hole course into play. Seven years later, thanks to the diligent efforts and hard work of these enthusiastic golfers, the layout was extended to an 18-hole track.
Today, the course extends to 6,122 metres from the tips, arranged as two returning nines, playing to a par of 72. Highlight holes include short par fours at #1, #5, #14 and #15. The par five 6th is a tough hole, with water pinching into the fairway to the right and left of the green, and the 513-metre 18th is a formidable three-shot hole, offering two distinct paths from the tee to the home green.
Architect Svein Drange Olsnes was quoted as saying: “the course is laid out in ‘virgin’ terrain (the area has not been cultivated before) in characteristic western nature and it’s a woodland layout in an open, heather-clad landscape. It offers fantastic experiences in all seasons (the course is open all year, when it is not snowing) and provides challenges for players of all levels.”
