Haverfordwest

Established in 1904, Haverfordwest Golf Club has been serving golfers in the local community for over a century now, making it one of the oldest clubs in the West Wales region. The club moved to its present location in the 1930s and its 9-hole course was doubled in size in 1983.

Measuring just over 6,000 yards from the back markers, today’s lightly bunkered parkland course exhibits several instances of an old-fashioned design trait – that of crossing fairways – with the first example of this encountered at the 1st hole, where it cuts across the 17th and 18th on its way to the green.

You may regard that as a little unusual but it’s nothing compared to what happens later in the round, when the 3rd, 10th and 13th holes all cross over the fairway of the 422-yard 12th hole.

There are only three par threes on the card at Haverfordwest and the last of these, the 150-yard 14th, has recently had the pond extended in front of the green, adding considerable challenge to a hole that was already one of the more testing on the scorecard.

The 14th is certainly regarded as the signature hole on the card but many consider the left doglegged 449-yard 13th which precedes it as the best hole on the course. Rated stroke index 1, it’s often played into the prevailing wind, making a net score of “4” feel like a birdie.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
