Hills of Lakeway (Hills)
The Hills Country Club located at Lakeway provides the 36-holes of Jack Nicklaus-designed golf, regardless of which way you view it. The newly-built Flintrock Falls course was designed by The Golden Bear with his son Jack Nicklaus II, however that of the first Hills Course (designed by the older Jack with his own design) is often thought to be the most popular attraction.
While the trees-lined "Hills" and the numerous bunkering are often the main challenge to be faced on the course on Hills, Flintrock is not the only course that has "falls." Perhaps the most popular hole on Hills is No. 7. Hills course is no. 7, a 185-yard par three that requires players to begin their round by crossing the course's central creek, before landing on a long green. Nicklaus and his club's design were not exactly minimalist when it came to the design of the hole however, since a cascade runs along across the stone wall, which keeps the green in the air above the water. It is interesting to consider whether Tom Fazio borrowed the idea for his Barton Creek (Fazio Foothills) in the Austin region a few years after.
