A great addition to its well-known neighbors in the area. Hillside is definitely becoming a “must play” for visitors in a region with some of the greatest courses in the world.
Hillside begins just like every other course in the area, right along a train line that runs down the left side on a daunting opening tee shot. Like it’s name states, there are great changes in elevation at Hillside. Best seen (on the front) at the par 5 5th with the fairway climbing towards the green.
You can certainly tell that the investment at Hillside is in its back nine. The dunes are greater. The elevation changes are more dramatic. The holes are more memorable.
The par 3 10th is probably the most appealing par 3 on the property. The par 5 11th has the most dramatic dunes down the left side protecting the uphill dogleg left approach. There is not a bad hole hole back nine. The par 4 stretch from 12-15 is very solid with every hole being distinguishable. Another great par 5 at 17 climbing uphill once again.
Conditioning was great and played firm and fast. Controlling spin into the green here was important as most greens had false fronts and dramatic undulations.
A trip to England’s Golf Coast is not complete without a visit to Hillside!

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
