Hornafjörður
Golfklúbbur Hornafjörður’s 9-hole Silfurnesvöllur course was remodelled by Edwin Roald in 2004, when the architect expanded the club’s original layout to the north of the coastal property, bringing the sea into play now on eight holes.
The course now extends to just over 2,700 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 35, with two par fives and three par threes in operation. The opening hole is the longest on the card at 535 metres, bending gently left to a small peninsula green, followed by a short par three that plays to another peninsula green.
It’s a thrilling start, and a taste of things to come over the next three holes as they tightly hug the coastline. The routing then turns back towards the clubhouse and the round culminates in a tough finish with the par three 8th (stroke index 3) then the par four 9th (stroke index 1) testing players all the way to the home green.
