The small town of Húsavík lies on the eastern shores of Skjalfandi Bay. In 1967, some locals decided to form Golfklúbbur Húsavíkur and their efforts resulted in the formation of a 9-hole course four years later.

In 1977, work started on a new golf pavilion which was completed soon after. In 1982 an equipment storage building was constructed then an irrigation system installed so the club progressed slowly but surely during its formative years.

In more recent times, the course has been renovated without drastically changing the layout and the clubhouse has been enlarged. Many times the notion of enlarging the layout to 18 holes has been discussed but the focus remains on making the current course the best it can be.

As it stands, the nine holes at Husavikur extend to 2,530 metres from the regular tees (2,232 metres from the forward tees) with par set at 35. There’s only one par five hole in play at the 436-metre 4th, which is sandwiched between par threes at #3 and #5.
