Ikoyi

Ikoyi Club 1938 was formed as an amalgamation of the European Club and The Lagos Golf Club, both of which joined forces in September of 1938 to create what is now one of the most active recreational clubs in West Africa. Around ten thousand members enjoy a wide range of sports, including swimming, tennis, squash, badminton and, of course, golf.

For a long time, Ikoyi remained largely an “expat club” which was frequented by European civil servants and members of the diplomatic community, until it evolved over time to became more inclusive, transforming itself into one of the best multiracial clubs on the continent, with membership drawn from all parts of the world.

The Ikoyi golf course is laid out within a large 465-acre property, extending to just over 6,000 metres from the back tees. The par four 7th is regarded as the signature hole, where the tee shot is played over a lake to a fairway that narrows as it approaches a tree-encircled, elevated green. On the back nine, the short par four 13th presents a good birdie opportunity, provided golfers avoid the many bunkers that sit in front of the green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
