To say that The International was exciting and fun to play would be a gross understatement, so I’d like to quickly take you through the holes so you can get a feeling of the variation that exists.
#1 - par 5 (476m white/461m yellow), dogleg left with a nice risk reward corner that can be cut off although you have to drive the huge bunker to the left of the fairway. Doing this correct will allow you to have a shot at the green in two. Otherwise the second shot is contested with a large bunker and mound to the right of the fairway. Lay up before and face a longer tougher approach, play over the bunker and your rewarded with a nicer lie and an open view of the green with a wedge in your hand. The green is extremely large with various levels and undulations, protected by bunkers front left. A running shot could be possible by way of a draw from right to left for those going for it in two. A really nice hole but semi gentle start to prepare you for what’s to come.
#2 - par 4 (345m white/323m yellow) this shortish par 4 favors a driver over the right center bunker to be left with the best angle and view of the green. Lay up in front of the bunker and be faced with a blind approach and short to mid iron. The green like all the greens here has many different sections and pin placements for variety. A large false front and elevated green make this approach tricky in the wind. Deep bunkers protect it both right and left front.
#3 – par 5 (493 white/461 yellow) this medium length par 5 dogleg right down the hill is a great hole. Your drive is faced with a decision as to which line you want in order to approach the green or go for it in two. Aim right of the only tree on the course and you have to bomb it over the large bunker, aim left and you need to be long so the tree does not come into play. The fairway is very wide for anyone wanting to play this as a 3 shoter. The approach shot is to a 900 sq meter green with water on 3 sides of it. It’s an intimidating shot no doubt. A second shot long and right will allow for a chipped third shot and great angle into the green. Playing left of the large tree allows you more green to work with but brings the bunker behind the green more into play. A challenging par 5 with a great risk reward opportunity at birdie.
#4 – par 3 (128m white/109 m yellow) the first of our 3 shotters is the only short one on the course. Wouldn’t you know it would be all carry over water to a green surrounded on 3 sides with water. The green is also very large with many levels and possible pin positions not to mention the visual deception that if you go long your in the water as well although there is a massive catch bunker there to save thinned or skulled shots. Watch out for the wind on this tricky little hole.
#5 – par 4 (304m white/283m yellow) this is a great little drivable par 4 with danger everywhere. Water runs the entire length of the hole on the left side and the closer you get to the hole the more the water cuts in. A straight line at the flag will require driving the entire distance carry due to how far the water cuts in just in front of the green. There is a bail out right but this is blind. This hole is also full of distraction as it runs direction in front of one of the runways that planes are landing on at the airport. So those of you with a high ball flight watchout! 150m might get you a little more than a birdie or a swim with the ducks.
#6 – par 4 (332m white/311m yellow) this medium to short par 4 offer a really unique decision off the tee. It has water hazard running down the length of the hole mostly to the left side however you can choose to play in left with driver to fairway on the other side of this water hazard, or choose to keep right and short leaving a longer approach and more difficult angle to the green. The risk of the longer shot includes bunkers that catch anything left and of course the carry which is long depending on your tee. The green is long and protected by bunker on the front right side that come into play for the players choosing to lay up short and right of the water hazard.
#7 – Par 3 (193m white/183m yellow) the second of our short one shotters is a relatively long and tough par 3 into an elevated green that is protected with bunkers on the left side. This green sets up ideally for a draw if you want to follow it’s natural angle and take the deep bunkers out of play. Missing right into the run off will leave a very tough up and down depending on the pin location.
#8 – Par 5 (512m white/487m yellow) – the third of our par 5’s is another risk reward type of hole. A good and long drive avoiding the bunkers on the left and the large ones on the right (which visually make the fairway seem much smaller and more challenging that it is) will leave the option to go for it in two. However, the green is split by a rather large bunker forcing you to play either left right or over that bunker. Bunkers to the left and right sides of the green complicate this decision. This is yet another very large green offering a variety of levels and pin placements.
#9 – par 4 (409m white/382m yellow) – this hole is the hardest hole on the course in terms of ratings playing into the prevailing wind. It sets up perfectly for a draw off the tee and doglegs to the left. The approach which will in most cases be a long iron or a utility/wood has to contend with a water hazard short and middle to left (depending on the angle) of this long and slightly raised green.
#10 – par 4 (381 white/358 yellow) – this par 4 starts with a visually intimidating driving over water for the first half to a fairly generous landing area protected on the left side by bunkers. The hole is another dogleg left. The approach is faced with a very tricky highly elevated green with a false front and steep run-off to the right.
#11 – par 4 (294m white/278m yellow) – this is a another great little short par 4. Big hitters will be tempted to go for the green in one however anything but the most perfect of shots will be met with a tough up and down from the many bunkers in front of the green. The hole doglegs right very sharply and the tee box is one of the highest points on the course. The players is tricked into thinking they should go for it. What’s unique is that proper course management would all you to hit a really short iron like a 5 or 6 from the tee and be left with a wedge to the green. While hitting driver/3wood/hybrid towards the dogleg bring you only further away from the hole although they do open up the green for the approach a bit better.
#12 – par 4 (404m white/397m yellow) – this par 4 is basically the first straight and long hole on the course. It requires two solid shots to reach and is free of bunkers. The green is long and heavily undulated.
#13 – par 3 (177m white/161m yellow – this medium length par 3 is another excellent and totally different one shotter. This is played over a marshland/water hazard that gives the appearance that it requires a full carry when in actuality there is a far bit of room in front of a green that is large and runs at a diagonal from right to left back away from your tee shot. Also seems to set up for light draw to follow the angle.
#14 par 4 (371m white/352m yellow) a dogleg right par 4 that dares you to take on the bunkers in the corner to shorten your approach to this highly elevated green protected by bunkers short right and left with run offs in back.
#15 par 5 (506m white/487m yellow) this is a forced 3 shot par 5 . with a dogleg left dictating where you play your second shot which leaves you to choose between playing closer to the water hazard for a shorter and better angle on your approach or flirting with the uneven ground and longer route yet playing it safe. The green is protect by water and bunkers to the left.
#16 par 4 (359m white/324m yellow) the drive on this medium length par 4 has a forced carry over water when played to the left side that is separated by a young tree which makes you decide if you want to go for the very long carry and a short approach or play right of the tree where there is little water and be rewarded with a longer approach shot but a slightly better angle into this green which is elevated considerably.
#17 par 3 (213 m white/211m yellow) this long par 3 serves as an excellent hole on the closing run here. A long and accurate tee shot is required from an elevated tee to a green protected by a run off front left and a bunker right including a false front. The green has several plateaus making putting tricky from the wrong level. Par is a great score here.
#18 par 5 (479m white/463m yellow) the closing hole is an excellent risk/reward dogleg right par 5. A long drive will give a definite shot at going for the green in two. An excellent job was done to really entice players to go for this. The second shot is over water that is middle to left of the green. It appears that there is room to the right between the mound and the bunker to the right of the mound however there is a swale that will make a right miss far more complicated than is visually apparent.
Amsterdam International offers an excellent routing and a very challenging and enjoyable new course. Outside of my critique with regards to the location I have one other construction issue that is mentionable. Considerable effort and investment has been put into creating a sort of yellow brick road/natural stone cart path throughout the property and visually this is acceptable most of the time, however, this car path is extremely slippery when wearing spikes and in some places quite steep. In damp condition it’s a serious hazard and many people will end up falling as a result of this. It’s really a shame considering the investment and labor hours involved in such a beautiful path. I’m sure they will come up with a solution in the short term but for new be extremely careful and don’t walk on it if it’s wet.
In the mean time if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to play here, jump on it, thanks to Mr. Steensels you will be treated to a great ride and wonderful experience. I for one have become a fan! David Davis

You don't need a four-figure budget, a private-club connection or an invitation from a member to play a course in the World Top 100. Top100 has collated the 10 cheapest visitor-accessible courses on our current World Top 100 Ranking, based on standard green fees. From a world-class links in Tasmania to a U.S. Open and Ryder Cup venue in New York, these courses offer the chance to play some of the best golf on the planet without the eye-watering green fees attached to many of their World Top 100 counterparts. 1. St Andrews Beach Golf Course (Victoria, Australia) World Ranking: 89th | Australia ranking: 6th | Green fee: A$139 (£74) Tom Doak’s first Australian mainland design, St Andrews Beach opened in 2004 on the Mornington Peninsula and has since become one of the country’s best-value, ranked courses. The public-access layout occupies 175 hectares of former grazing land, with wide fairways, rolling terrain and sandy natural contours that give several holes a links-like feel. Measuring just over 6,000 metres from the back tees, it is playable for a broad range of golfers, though the subtle greens ensure there is still plenty to think about. In a region known for outstanding golf, St Andrews Beach stands out not only for its quality but also for its accessibility, offering everyday golfers the chance to experience a Tom Doak design without the premium price tag often attached to courses of this calibre. 2. Bethpage Black (New York, USA) World Ranking: 58th | USA ranking: 28th | Green fee: From US$140 (£106) Bethpage Black has the rare distinction of being a World Top 100 course, a major championship venue and a public golf course. Located within Bethpage State Park on Long Island, the A.W. Tillinghast design opened in 1936 and has since hosted two U.S. Opens and the 2025 Ryder Cup. The Black is renowned for its difficulty, with narrow fairways, deep rough, large sculpted bunkers and elevated greens making accuracy essential. It is a demanding test, but one that remains remarkably accessible to everyday golfers. That combination of championship pedigree and public access is what makes Bethpage Black so unusual. Few golfers get the chance to play a course of this stature without needing a private-club connection or resort stay. 3. Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club (Wellington, New Zealand) World Ranking: 91st | New Zealand ranking: 2nd | Green fee: NZ$275 (£118) Set on the Kapiti Coast, north of New Zealand's capital city Wellington, Paraparaumu Beach has been one of the country’s most celebrated golf courses since Alex Russell designed it in 1949. The links has hosted 12 New Zealand Opens and has long been regarded as one of the country’s finest layouts. It is a relatively short course by modern championship standards, but the coastal wind, firm fairways, deep bunkers and undulating greens provide plenty of challenge. The split-fairway 17th is a particular highlight, forcing golfers to choose between two very different routes to the green. For international golfers, Paraparaumu offers the chance to experience a genuine piece of New Zealand golfing history without needing access to a private resort. 4. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course (Alberta, Canada) World Ranking: 73rd | Canada ranking: 2nd | Green fee: C$280 (£149) Set among the Canadian Rockies in Jasper National Park, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is one of Stanley Thompson’s most celebrated designs. Opened in 1925, the course winds through the valley beside Lake Beauvert, with snow-capped peaks providing a backdrop to almost every hole. The course combines wide fairways, elevated tees and strategically placed bunkers with the natural contours of the landscape. Thompson’s design rewards thoughtful play rather than simply demanding power, making it a course that can be enjoyed by golfers of different abilities. The result is a rare combination of classic golf and Canadian wilderness, with the surrounding mountains and forest making the journey between shots almost as memorable as the golf itself. 5. Barnbougle - The Dunes Course (Tasmania, Australia) World Ranking: 25th | Australia ranking: 3rd | Green fee: A$285 (£151) Barnbougle Dunes is about as close as Australia gets to a traditional seaside links. Set on Tasmania’s northeast coast, the course was designed by Tom Doak and Australian Mike Clayton and opened in 2004, establishing Barnbougle as one of the country’s premier golf destinations. The layout runs through towering coastal dunes, with wide fairways, natural contours and greens that follow the movement of the land. The wind is an ever-present factor, while the strategic design rewards golfers who think their way around the course rather than simply relying on power. For golfers seeking a genuine links experience outside the British Isles, Barnbougle Dunes is about as compelling as it gets, combining world-class golf with the rugged coastline of Tasmania. 6. Cape Wickham Golf Links (Tasmania, Australia) World Ranking: 47th | Australia ranking: 4th | Green fee: A$315 (£167) Cape Wickham occupies a spectacular stretch of coastline on King Island, sitting in Bass Strait between Tasmania and mainland Australia. Designed by American architect Mike DeVries, the links opened in 2015 and quickly established itself as one of the country's standout modern courses. The course makes the most of its remote coastal setting, with the opening five holes winding around Cape Farewell before the layout moves through sand hills and limestone outcrops. Several holes hug the shoreline, while the closing stretch heads towards the imposing Cape Wickham Lighthouse. The 18th provides a fitting finale, with the fairway doglegging around a sandy bay before reaching the home green, making Cape Wickham a memorable links experience from start to finish. 7. St Enodoc Golf Club - Church Course (Cornwall, England) World Ranking: 49th | England ranking: 4th | Green fee: £175 Set among towering dunes overlooking the Camel Estuary in Cornwall, St Enodoc’s Church Course is one of James Braid’s most distinctive designs. Founded in 1891, the course was transformed by Braid in the early 20th century and remains a spectacularly natural links. It is a relatively short par 69 at 6,010 metres, but its undulating fairways, dramatic elevation changes and formidable dunes create a test that demands imagination. The famous 6th is the standout, with the enormous Himalaya dune obscuring the green and making club selection particularly difficult. The course also has an unusual piece of history, with the 13th hole running alongside the churchyard where poet laureate John Betjeman is buried. 8. South Cape Owners Club (Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea) World Ranking: 63rd | South Korea ranking: 2nd | Green fee: From KRW 350,000 (£195) Set on Namhae Island off the southeast coast of South Korea, South Cape Owners Club is a dramatic Kyle Phillips design where the ocean is visible from all 18 holes. The course opened in 2013 as part of a luxury resort development and has quickly established itself among Asia's most striking modern layouts. The course is framed by granite outcrops, coastal cliffs and rolling terrain, with bluegrass fairways contrasting against fine fescue rough. The standout stretch comes from the 11th onwards, culminating in two spectacular waterside par threes at the 14th and 16th. For golfers willing to make the journey to Namhae Island, South Cape offers a rare combination of world-class golf, dramatic coastal scenery and a luxury resort experience. 9. Utrecht De Pan Golf Club (Utrecht, Netherlands) World Ranking: 56th | Netherlands ranking: 1st | Green fee: From €235 (£198) Dating back to 1894, Utrecht De Pan is the second-oldest golf club in the Netherlands, with Harry Colt designing the current course in 1929. Set in secluded woodland near Utrecht, the layout is a classic heathland course, winding through pine, birch, oak and chestnut trees. De Pan has hosted the Dutch Open three times and is built around strategic rather than power golf. Several of its most memorable holes play over valleys of heather and sand, while the sixth and seventh demand particularly thoughtful tee shots and approaches. Recent restoration work by Frank Pont has helped return the course towards Colt’s original design, making De Pan a fascinating example of Golden Age heathland golf in the Netherlands. 10. Cruden Bay Golf Club - Championship Course (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) World Ranking: 70th | Scotland ranking: 10th | Green fee: From £205 Cruden Bay is one of Scotland’s most distinctive links, winding through towering dunes on the Aberdeenshire coast with the North Sea providing a constant backdrop. The course opened in 1899 after being laid out by Old Tom Morris and Archie Simpson, before Tom Simpson and Herbert Fowler remodelled it in 1926. Cruden Bay makes spectacular use of its natural terrain, with elevated tees, blind drives, punchbowl greens and fairways that rise and fall between the dunes. The 193-yard 4th, played from an elevated tee across a deep hollow, is one of several standout holes. There is plenty of character, too, from driveable par fours and back-to-back par threes to the feeling that every hole reveals something different. It is exactly the sort of course that rewards golfers willing to embrace its quirks. Green fees are based on standard 18-hole visitor rates, using international visitor rates where applicable. All prices are peak-season rates and do not take twilight, off-season or promotional rates into account. Prices are correct at the time of writing and are subject to change.
The Low Countries offer some of Continental Europe's finest golf, where Golden Age masterpieces from Harry Colt and Tom Simpson showcase world-class architecture across remarkably compact geography. From the towering dunes of Dutch links courses to Belgium's tree-lined royal estates, the Benelux region delivers diverse golfing experiences within easy reach of major airports. The Netherlands leads with 40 exceptional courses headlined by Utrecht De Pan's heathland masterpiece. Belgium counters with 30 superb layouts dominated by royal courses carrying century-old heritage. Luxembourg rounds out the trio with three quality courses in one of Europe's smallest nations. 🇳🇱 Best Golf Courses in The Netherlands The Elite Five 🏆 The Netherlands' premier golf courses showcase the finest Golden Age architecture in Continental Europe. These five courses represent the absolute pinnacle of Dutch golf: 1. Utrecht De Pan – Harry Colt carved this heathland masterpiece through magnificent pine, birch and oak forests in the late 1920s. Ranked 56th in the world, the course presents strategic golf where holes flow naturally across gently rolling terrain. Frank Pont's recent restoration work has returned the layout to its original glory, removing decades of vegetation to reveal Colt's intended playing corridors. 2. Koninklijke Haagsche (Royal Hague) – This links layout weaves through towering sand dunes along the North Sea coast. Originally redesigned by Harry Colt's partner Hugh Alison just before World War II, the course ranks 86th globally and second in Continental Europe. Recent reviews compare its rolling duneland to Shinnecock Hills, high praise for any course outside traditional links strongholds. 3. Kennemer – Harry Colt's 1927 design near Amsterdam offers another links experience, later expanded by Frank Pennink in the 1980s with an additional nine holes. The sandy-soiled fairways and firm conditions provide authentic seaside golf just minutes from Schiphol Airport. 4. Eindhovensche – Another Harry Colt masterpiece from the Golden Age, this woodland course winds through dense forest south of Eindhoven. Recent tree removal has reclaimed lost width and improved turf conditions, showcasing Colt's original strategic intent. 5. Noordwijkse – Coastal links golf at its finest, this layout offers firm turf and natural movement between The Hague and Haarlem. The course held the Netherlands' top ranking in 2014 before being overtaken by the resurgent courses above it. Modern Excellence ⬆️ Beyond the Golden Age classics, exceptional modern courses prove great architecture continues: 🏖️ Links Valley – Modern links-style layout emphasising firm, fast conditions and strategic ground game 🏆 Bernardus – Kyle Phillips masterpiece hosting multiple KLM Open championships ✈️ The International Amsterdam – Bruno Steensels championship venue near Schiphol Airport Regional Character 🗺️ The Hague Coastal Zone 🌊 – Koninklijke Haagsche and Noordwijkse provide the Netherlands' finest links golf with towering dunes and firm conditions. Utrecht Heathland 🌲 – Utrecht De Pan anchors the region where courses thread through pine forests with year-round firm playing conditions. Amsterdam Gateway 🏙️ – Kennemer and The International offer championship golf within 30 minutes of Schiphol Airport. 🇧🇪 Best Golf Courses in Belgium The Royal Elite 👑 Belgium's finest courses carry impressive royal pedigrees, most earning the "Royal" designation automatically after fifty years of operation. The top courses showcase British Golden Age architecture adapted to Belgian terrain: 1. Royal Antwerp – Belgium's oldest club (founded 1888) now holds the nation's top ranking. Tom Simpson redesigned Willie Park Jr's original routing in 1930, creating a wooded heathland classic. Recent intensive tree management has restored the course to Simpson's vision, opening vistas and improving playing conditions dramatically. 2. Royal Zoute – Harry Colt's 1907 links layout near the North Sea coast held Belgium's #1 ranking for years. Eight Belgian Open championships have been contested here, with Lee Westwood capturing the last edition in 2000. 3. Royal Limburg – Fred Hawtree designed this heathland course in the mid-1960s, with son Martin later refining the layout. Recent bunker renovation by Bruno Steensels has enhanced both aesthetics and playability. The course extends to over 6,000 metres with strategic demands throughout. 4. Royal Belgium (Old) – Originally laid out by Seymour Dunn over a century ago, Tom Simpson redesigned this tree-lined layout in 1928. Martin Hawtree's 1990s renovation modernised the course whilst respecting Simpson's strategic architecture. The 27-hole facility near Brussels includes a complementary nine-hole short course. 5. Royal Ostend – Belgium's only true links course offers seaside golf along the North Sea. The relatively flat terrain creates different challenges than the rolling dunes found in the Netherlands, but the coastal wind and firm conditions deliver authentic links golf. Championship Tests 🏆 Royal Waterloo (La Marache) – This championship layout consistently ranks among Belgium's finest courses. Strong conditioning and strategic design create a proper tournament test that has hosted numerous professional events. National Golf Brussels (Championship) – Opening in 2017, this modern facility immediately gained recognition for its championship-quality design and extensive practice facilities. Belgian professional stars Nicolas Colsaerts, Thomas Detry and Thomas Pieters endorsed the course at its launch. Tom Simpson's Belgian Legacy 🏛️ Tom Simpson's influence on Belgian golf towers above all other architects. Three top courses bear his design signature: Royal Antwerp – 1930 redesign now fully restored to original intent Royal Fagnes – 1930 partnership with Philip Mackenzie Ross in Spa Royal Sart Tilman – 1939 design through dramatic topography near Liège Simpson's work across varied Belgian terrain, from dense forest to open parkland, created courses that have stood the test of time. His understanding of strategic golf and natural land movement produced layouts that remain relevant nearly a century later. Regional Distribution 🗺️ Belgium's top courses cluster in four regions: Antwerp (Royal Antwerp in the north), Coastal Strip (Royal Zoute and Royal Ostend along the North Sea), Brussels Area (Royal Belgium, Royal Waterloo, National Brussels around the capital), and Ardennes Mountains (Royal Fagnes and Royal Sart Tilman in the southeast). 🇱🇺 Best Golf Courses in Luxembourg Luxembourg's compact size means just three courses dominate the national scene: 1. Golf de Luxembourg – Located within a 400-acre estate in the hilly, forested Grevenmachar district, the course routes around the beautiful 18th-century Belenhaff château. The layout provides a pleasant golf experience that mirrors Luxembourg itself – quality in compact scale. 2. Grand Ducal de Luxembourg – Golf in Luxembourg started here in 1935, making this the nation's oldest course. Originally designed by Major J.C. Symonds with inspiration from Tom Simpson (who was working nearby in Belgium), the venerable layout maintains historic significance. 3. Kikuoka – Japanese architect Iwao Uematsu designed this course in 1991 within the 250-acre Scheierhaff Estate for the Kikuoka family. The club added a unique six-hole short course in 2008 featuring synthetic sand-filled greens, rare in Continental European golf. Experience the intensity, passion, and world-class golf that defines the Solheim Cup, the premier international team competition in women's professional golf. Whether you're planning to witness the 2026 edition in the Netherlands or preparing for future competitions, this comprehensive guide helps you maximise your tournament experience while exploring exceptional golf courses and cultural attractions. Tournament Overview: Why This Event Matters The Solheim Cup stands as women's golf's most prestigious team competition, pitting the finest players from Europe against the United States in a thrilling biennial contest. Named after Norwegian-American golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim, this match play spectacle has captivated galleries since its inaugural event in 1990. The three-day format mirrors the Ryder Cup with foursomes, fourballs, and singles matches creating an electric atmosphere where individual brilliance meets team strategy. With 28 matches worth one point each, teams battle for the 14½ points needed to claim or win the magnificent Waterford Crystal trophy. The United States currently leads the all-time series 11-8-1, but recent competitions have showcased increasingly competitive European squads making every edition unpredictable. The 2024 contest at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club attracted 115,000 spectators and broadcast to 190 countries, confirming the event's status as the largest women's golf tournament worldwide. Tournament History & Heritage The Solheim Cup originated from Karsten Solheim's vision to create an international team competition that would elevate women's professional golf. The inaugural 1990 event at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida established a format that has evolved alongside the sport itself. Initially held in even-numbered years, the tournament shifted to odd years in 2003 following the September 11 attacks postponement of the 2001 Ryder Cup, then returned to even years from 2024 onwards after another pandemic-related schedule adjustment. The competition format has refined over three decades. Early editions featured 16-18 total matches with 8-10 players per team, expanding to the current 28-match format with 12-player squads in 2002. This structure provides four sessions of alternate-shot and better-ball matches over the opening two days, culminating in 12 decisive singles matches on Sunday. The qualification systems have similarly evolved, with European selection initially focused on Ladies European Tour results but now incorporating Women's World Golf Rankings to reflect modern players' global schedules. Memorable moments define the Solheim Cup legacy. Laura Davies holds the record for most career points (25) and most appearances (12), while Caroline Hedwall achieved an unprecedented perfect 5-0 record in the 2013 victory. The youngest competitor ever was England's Charley Hull at just 17 years and 149 days in 2013. The 2023 edition at Finca Cortesin ended in a dramatic 14-14 tie, allowing Europe to retain the cup as defending champions. Dutch golf has contributed two players to Solheim Cup history: Christel Boeljon and Anne van Dam, both winning as European team members. 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands The twentieth edition brings the Solheim Cup to Dutch soil for the first time, marking a historic milestone for Continental European golf. Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt hosts the competition from 7-13 September 2026, with the official matches taking place 11-13 September. This Kyle Phillips-designed heathland masterpiece has already proven its championship credentials by hosting three editions of the Dutch Open (2021-2023) on the DP World Tour. The selection represents IMG's appointment as delivery partner for European Solheim Cups from 2026 through 2038, ushering in a new era for the competition. Team Europe will be captained by Anna Nordqvist, the nine-time competitor who brings experience from serving as playing vice-captain in recent editions. Championship Course: Bernardus Golf Bernardus Golf represents modern Dutch golf at its finest, combining American design sensibilities with European heathland tradition. Dutch businessman Robert van der Wallen invested an estimated €50 million to realise this vision after acquiring the project in 2016, bringing in California-based architect Kyle Phillips to craft a championship test worthy of elite professional competition. The course opened in 2018 and immediately secured European Tour status, hosting the Dutch Open from 2021-2023 before earning Solheim Cup honours. The par-72 layout is divided into three interconnected sections flowing seamlessly through 18 holes of strategic golf. The opening and closing holes frame the striking futuristic clubhouse complex, whilst the middle sections journey through water-influenced terrain (holes 2-8) and heathland character (holes 10-16). Phillips planted extensive gorse, heather, and Scots pine across gently rolling mounds, creating frame lines that guide play whilst honouring the site's agricultural heritage. The transformation from former cornfields to sandy heath required meticulous land shaping and vegetation establishment. Water features prominently in the strategic equation. Deep ditches guard greens at the par-4 2nd, par-4 9th, par-4 14th, and par-5 18th, demanding precise approach play under pressure. The par-3 8th and par-3 17th require brave tee-to-green carries over water, likely producing dramatic moments during Solheim Cup singles matches. Large, subtly contoured greens feature run-off areas, humps, hollows, and collection zones that reward creativity around the putting surfaces, particularly advantaging players comfortable with links-style ground game. The practice facilities match championship standards with an enormous driving range and exceptional short-game areas. The eight-room Bernardus Lodge provides on-site accommodation with private bathrooms, a heated outdoor pool (open May-October), tennis court, a gymnasium, sauna, and hammam. The Michelin-starred Noble Kitchen restaurant elevates the culinary experience. The "Day Membership" concept allows visitors to experience member-level service and facilities, creating an accessible yet premium golf destination that balances exclusivity with public access. Championship Experience: Tournament Week Solheim Cup week transforms Bernardus Golf into an international golf theatre. The format's intensity distinguishes this event from individual stroke play championships, as partnerships navigate alternate-shot pressure and fourballs reward aggressive play. Friday morning opens with four foursomes matches where partners hit alternating shots, testing both strategy and nerve as mistakes compound pressure. Afternoon shifts to fourballs, allowing each player to play their own ball with team scores taking the better result per hole. Saturday repeats the Friday format with fresh pairings, giving captains opportunities to rest players or exploit favourable matchups. The pivotal element arrives in captain's selections for each session, balancing chemistry, form, and matchup advantages whilst managing player fatigue across multiple rounds. Veteran pairs develop shorthand communication and trust, whilst surprise partnerships sometimes produce magical results. European captain Anna Nordqvist and American counterpart Angela Stanford will spend months analysing potential combinations before finalising their strategies. Sunday's 12 singles matches deliver the tournament climax, with all 24 players competing simultaneously across the course. The singles drama intensifies as leads change hole-by-hole and teams calculate remaining points needed. Captains strategically order their lineups, perhaps placing reliable point-earners early to establish momentum or saving stars for potential must-win situations late. Galleries follow favourite players whilst scoreboards update constantly, creating an atmosphere unique in professional golf. Spectator experiences extend beyond watching matches. Hospitality options range from general admission accessing multiple viewing areas to premium packages with reserved seating, gourmet dining, and close-up vantage points. Practice days and the PING Junior Solheim Cup provide additional value for multi-day ticket holders. The compact Bernardus layout allows spectators to follow specific groups or position themselves at crucial holes where matches often turn. European crowds traditionally create passionate atmospheres, and the first Netherlands edition promises exceptional local support.
