A 90-minute drive southwest from the capital will take you to the province of Caceres in Extremadura, where the golf course at Isla de Valdecañas is situated.
Sandwiched between the towering peaks of the Sierra de Gredos to the north and the Sierra de Guadalupe to the south, Isla de Valdecañas occupies a tranquil location close to Monfrague National Park so, for many Madrilenians, this is the ideal region to escape from the city and connect with nature.
The development only opened in 2011 and it occupies a 330-acre site comprised of two hotels, 300 villas and a number of sports facilities, including a beach club, equestrian centre, skating rink and, of course, an 18-hole golf layout.
Designed by Álvaro Arana with Global Green (who also manage and maintain the golf complex), the course extends to 6,319 meters, with Director of Golf Lola Ruiz nominating any of the par threes (at hole 2, 8, 15 or 17) as the official signature hole on the layout.
