Juliette Falls
Juliette Falls took its name from an early settlement town that was founded here way back in 1845. A former phosphate-mining area, Juliette Falls is set in the heart of one of the first English-speaking communities in Florida’s Merion County. Today’s Juliet Falls is a far cry from the days of the early settlers. Multi-million dollar homes have melded with a golf course to create an upmarket community that is the height of 21st century luxury.
Juliet Falls is a 7,239-yard John Sanford design and it’s the architect’s finest creation to date. With plenty of water hazards and four waterfalls, Juliet Falls has already received positive accolades since it opened its five tees for play in the autumn of 2007. We feel certain that more awards will follow.
“Our main philosophy was to be gentle on the land. At Juliette Falls we went out on 546 acres and found the best golf holes,” said John Sanford. “We were able to then create the routing and master plan around those great locations. The property has tremendous movement, so we were able to establish nice corridors with large, mature oak trees to frame the holes with good angles of play off each tee, which makes for very strategic holes. We also had a great budget and great people to work with.”
After a fairly quiet start, Juliette Falls comes alive at the 6th “Reflection Lake”, which is a glorious par five featuring a tee shot over the lake to a fairway that turns left, climbing uphill to an elevated green. The par three 7th hole, “Oasis”, features tropical landscaping and a jaw-dropping water feature to the right of the green. But perhaps the loveliest hole at Juliette Falls is the par four 8th which was routed through part of the old phosphate mine. Huge oak trees surround the green site, with colourful azaleas in the foreground, creating an intimate, natural backdrop to a delightful hole.
Juliet Falls is a new and exciting golf course that will sit proudly near the top of Florida’s top golf course rankings. Take a bow John Sanford, you have achieved, and we should all remember that Florida is bloated with more than 1,250 golf courses.
