Kartano

Åke Personin designed the 18-hole Kartano golf course and it’s a tale of two halves with a fairly flat and open front side leading to a heavily wooded back nine that features interesting elevation changes.

The layout extends to 6,127 metres from the back tees and both nines conclude with par fives that are routed either side of a star-shaped central lake close to the clubhouse. Water comes into play at several other holes, most notably at the par three 3rd where an attractive pond sits to the front right of the green.

Unusually, the three most difficult holes on the inward half are played consecutively, starting at the right doglegging 370-metre 11th. This hole is followed by the 471-metre 12th (rated stroke index 1) with a ditch twice slicing across the fairway, then the 394-metre 13th, where another water course crosses in front of the green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
