Katberg
The Katberg Eco Golf Estate & Hotel lies within an enormous 1,000-acre property in the Winterburg Mountains, where there are thirteen two or three-bedroomed self-catering golf villas on the estate. It’s one of the more isolated courses in the province, with East London a 3-hour drive away.
The course is set out on pleasantly undulating terrain, featuring kikuyu fairways and bent grass greens, with an overall length of 5,661 metres from the tips. It hosted the South African Boys stoke play and match play championships in 2012 and both winners (Tristen Strydom and Thriston Lawrence) now play as professionals on the Sunshine Tour.
A large dam sits to the left of the 6th hole, then the par three 7th requires an all-carry tee shot over the water to the green. The shorter back nine offers birdie opportunities at three short par four holes. There’s also a waterfall to admire between the 17th and 18th, with the closing hole played as a par three from an elevated tee over a creek to the home green.
