Keene Trace Golf Club (Champion Trace)

Situated half an hour’s drive outside Lexington, Keene Trace Golf Club offers its members two 18-hole courses: Champions Trace, an Arthur Hills design that first appeared in 1987 and Keene Run, a Keith Foster and Drew Rodgers collaboration which was unveiled twenty years later.

The Barbasol Championship moved to the Champions Trace course in 2018, four years after debuting as an alternate event to the Open championship. The tournament, which had previously been held in Alabama, became the first non-Major PGA Tour played in Kentucky since 1959.

Measuring 7,117 yards from the back tees, the Champions Trace layout is configured as two returning nines, each of which finish with a couple of water-laden holes round the edge of a lake – shots played too far to the left at the 8th and 9th or to the right at the 17th and 18th will end up wet.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
