Kendal Golf Club

Kendal has been added to and lengthened over the years, with a range of professionals such as Ted Ray, Harry and Tom Vardon and JH Taylor advising on some of the arrangements. Today's course measures almost 5,800 yards and par 69.

Perched on high ground behind Kendal township, the layout traverses elevation changes of more than 200 feet from the western side down toward the closing holes to the east. Despite occupying only 90 acres, the course feels intimate, with tees and greens close together and even a quirky crossover between holes 12 and 13. It’s an easy, enjoyable walk—perfect for carrying your bag—though the uphill par-four 6th and the downhill 16th will test your legs. The reward? Endless, amazing views.

The terrain ensures that most holes play uphill, downhill, or across the slope, delivering remarkable variety. Generously wide fairways on side-hill holes keep play fair, while constantly changing vistas make each hole memorable. Months later, you’ll recall nearly every hole. Greens are simple and relatively flat, offering a calming contrast to the movement from tee to green. Most are open-fronted, inviting bump-and-run approaches on firm turf.

Distinctive features add character throughout: the “Battleship” shaped limestone outcrop guarding the par-three 17th green, a dramatic wash-out bunker on the high side of the par-four 10th approach, and stone walls edging several fairways. The par-four 6th climbs through narrow fairway pockets to a stone-walled green, with looks akin to a slalom course. The long downhill par-three 7th demands a precise shot—ideally bouncing in from the high left—while avoiding steep drop-offs to the right.
