Kenilworth

In 1889, the club was founded. Kenilworth Golf Club began life with a nine-hole course located situated at Castle Farm which Hugh Kirkaldy (who was the winner of The Open at St Andrews in 1891) was a member and inspected. In 1902, the course was increased to 18 holes, and it was used by the members until 1937, when it was moved to the present Villiers Hill course.

It's not clear which golf course was designed by whom, but Fred Hawtree remodelled the layout following World War II - rebuilding four holes, redesigning holes, and building a number of new tees. However, the work not being completed till the middle of 1950s. The two nines were changed as the new clubhouse opened in 1972.

The course is currently 6,285 yards starting from the back tees. It plays to the par of 70 (35 out and 36 in). Highlights include the very first - and longest three-par 3 on the course on the second (played with a two-tiered green) and the long doglegging left 5th hole, which is rated stroke index 1.

On the inside of the layout, the 519-yard 16th hole is the most difficult golf course on the course for a lot of players (even having a surprisingly low stroke index that is 12) as the course closes with a challenging par three that runs uphill to a second putting surface of two levels with three bunkers to protect facing the home green.
