The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort. Get ready for a challenge. Wind is the biggest factor of the course. I played 36 here a couple weeks ago. Teeing off at 7:40 with the sun rising, and putting on 18 with the sun strong. Both rounds, holes 5-13 were directly into the wind, as they all run in the same direction. You have to be accurate off the tee, as waste areas surround both sides of every fairway. The starter reminds you that there are no bunkers on the course and encourages you to take practice swings to get a feel for the sand. My caddie suggested playing shots out of the waste area with a more square club face, which was a huge help through the day. Visually deceiving in a lot of holes, just how Pete Dye drew it up. The course will more than likely play 3-500 yards further than the card says due to the wind. Amazing views on the back 9, as several holes run parallel to the ocean. A really fun and memorable round, capped off by some beverages on the porch of the Ryder Cup Bar, watching players hit their approach shots and putts with the ocean in the background.
