Kings Norton Golf Club was founded in 1892, with a 9-hole course laid out across the New House and Wyehall Farms by David Brown, the local professional who had won the Open at Musselburgh six years previously.
The club decided in the late 1960s to move to a new location at Weatheroak Hall, with Fred Hawtree engaged to set out a 27-hole course for the members.
Configured as three returning 9-hole circuits, these holes form three distinct 18-hole courses: The Weatheroak (Red & Blue nines), the Wythall (Red and Yellow nines) and the Brockhill (Yellow & Blue nines).
The Weatheroak is considered the premier 18-hole combination but a day’s golf at Kings Norton should also include a warm up on the Yellow nine, which many consider to be the equal of the other two circuits.
Highlight holes on the Yellow include the long par three 4th; the tough par four 6th (rated stroke index 1); and the slightly right doglegging par five 9th which narrows as it approaches the green next to the clubhouse.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
