Kingswood Park
Designed by award winning architects Darrell Huxham and Graham Cooke, New Brunswick’s Kingswood was widely regarded as the best newly constructed Canadian course when it opened in 2002. There are 27 holes on the property – the 18-hole, par 72, Signature course, which measures more than 7,000 yards from the back tees, and the 9-hole, 3,980-yard Executive course.
The course layout had to be altered during construction when a major road was routed through the property, requiring the purchase of additional land to compensate. A deal was then struck with the highways department which allowed them to blast rock for building the road from certain parts on the course, leaving behind some sculpted walls that were astutely brought into the design as interesting stone features.
Graham Cooke is well used to creating superior courses in the Atlantic Provinces and he feels Kingswood is one of the very best that he has been involved with – “There are some beautiful ponds, natural marshland and the course is framed by stands of beautiful white pines. The thirty foot waterfall we carved out of a rock wall… is one of the more spectacular features we've ever incorporated into a hole design" – and the signature 14th is certainly one of the most visually stunning holes to be found on any course.
Featuring a number of risk/reward design opportunities, Kingswood's visual appeal is emphasized with traditional revetted bunkering, beautifully contoured greens and dramatic changes in elevation.
