Koasati Pines

The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana is one of three federally recognised groups of Koasati Native American people. In 1995, they established the Coushatta Casino in a quiet spot just off US highway 165 then quickly added the first of several hotels to the property before opening an entertainment pavilion and an 18-hole golf course at the start of the new millennium.

Designed by architect Kevin Tucker, the Koasati Pines course is the longest in the state of Louisiana, measuring a mammoth 7,617 yards from the back markers. Occupying a natural wetland setting, the holes on the layout are routed through stands of stately pines and live oaks, with fairways skirting around fifty acres of lakes and ponds.

Both nines start and end with a challenging par five. The longest and toughest of these holes is the 18th, rated stroke index 2, where water threatens on either side of the fairway all the way from the tee to the home green. As the course guide states: “not your normal par five, this 624-yard hole will take a little work from the player to get home in three.”.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
