Opening for play in 2008 after a lengthy four-year construction period, the classic 18-hole parkland layout at Kynzvart Golf Club is one of the Czech Republic’s best new golf facilities.
It nestles on the fringe of the Slavkov Forest – in the grounds of the historic Castle and park that once belonged to Chancellor Metternich in the early 19th century – with rolling, tree-lined fairways blending effortlessly into the beautiful wooded landscape.
Highlight holes include the par five 3rd, where golfers must skirt past a bio-zone in the middle of the fairway and the long par four 16th, featuring what’s reckoned to be the longest fairway bunker in the country.
Short par fours at holes 2 and 10 are also of interest – as is the water-threatened par three 9th – but the hole that best encapsulates the golfing spirit of Kynžvart is the 454-yard 18th, which plays across a mill pond to a green that sits right in front of the historic Renaissance castle.
