The Lakes is a top Sydney golf course and should be on the bucket list.
The course has contrasting styles. The holes 2 -8 (over the road) is parkland style with sandy wastelands with the other holes more resort style with lots of water in play. I definitely enjoyed playing the parkland style holes more than the resort style holes. I did still enjoy the holes on the main lot, with some intimidating water carry shots on 1, 11, 15, 16 & 17.
The course requires the player to be accurate of the tee to score well. Par 4 1st hole, Par 4 10th, Par 5 11th and Par 4 16th hole are great examples of this. I enjoyed the Par 4 4th Hole, but understand if some dislike the current design.
The Par 5's on the course are short and all reachable in 2 with a good, long drive. Not quite a fan of the 9th and 18th holes being both Par 3's.
Recommend playing you have already played NSW GC.
