Opened for play in 2008 as a complementary golfing attraction to nearby Costa Teguise, it’s one of three Canarian Ron Kirby layouts – the others are Salobre (New) and Lopesan Melonares on Gran Canaria – that were designed by the late American architect.
Extending to 6,266 metres from the back tees, Lanzarote plays to a par of 72 (35 out then 37 in), with holes arranged as two returning nines,. There’s only one par five on the outward half at the 416-metre 4th, along with three par fives on the back nine.
Highlight holes on this volcanic landscape of rocky outcrops and black volcanic waste areas include the stretch between the 11th and 14th, where low-lying walls angle across fairways to throw into doubt the best line of play from tee to green.
