Las Misiones
Located to the south of Monterrey, in the Huajuco Canyon, the fairways at Las Misiones Country Club were laid out by Kelly Blake Moran, lead architect for Robert von Hagge, with nine holes opening in October 1990 and another nine ready for play in March of the following year.
Hurricane Alex inflicted a substantial amount of damage to the course in June of 2010 and this resulted in the club calling in Moran to overcome the destruction caused by this devastating natural event. In turn, the designer enlisted James Beke of Global Earthmovers and Shapers to rebuild the greens and fairways that had been destroyed.
The par five 2nd was one of the worst affected holes as it plays across an arroyo which carried the massive floodwaters that caused so much damage to the course. The bent grass green at this hole was totally eroded by the high waters and had to be rebuilt at a higher elevation, as were the putting surfaces at the par three 3rd and par four holes 6 and 17.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
