Leek
Leek Golf Club was established in 1892 and was a nine-hole course operating just across the road from where the current course is located. After seven years of creation the club relocated into Wallbridge (where Westwood Golf Club is located) before shifting to its present location in Big Birchall, with Tom Williamson designing the course, which was officially opened on the 5 July 1923.
The layout today extends up to 6,206 yards starting from the back markers, and plays to 70 yards par (34 out and 36 in) The layout has four starting points near the clubhouse (at #1 #8, #11 and 16) giving members a range of choices to play some holes if the time is short. There are three par threes, and 1 par 5 on the first nine holes, the outward part is about 400 yards shorter than the inside half.
The highlights in Leek includes the slightly left-leaning the par three 3rd (rated as stroke index 2.) and the narrow, long hole par 3 11th (the longest of five holes that require a one-shot in the deck) as well as 16, which is a par 5 in which "trees to the left, and the out-of-bounds right occupy on the mind" before advancing to a tiny green that is protected by a bunker in front left of the putting green.
