Faribault, United States
Opened in 1998 on former farmland beside the Cannon and Straight Rivers, Legacy Golf in Faribault is one of southern Minnesota's most distinctively designed public courses. Architect Garrett Gill created a layout of three contrasting personalities: Scottish-style links holes to the north with rolling terrain and native prairie grasses, classic tree-lined parkland fairways in the centre, and open hillside holes to the south with views across to the 1887 clock tower of the famous Shattuck-St. Mary's School. Just 35 minutes from the Twin Cities suburbs, it is an accessible daily-fee destination with a genuine championship pedigree.

Legacy Golf is an 18-hole public championship facility located in Faribault, Minnesota, situated approximately 35 miles south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The course was designed by golf architect Garret Gill and opened for play in 1998. It measures 6,500 yards from the championship tees, carrying a course rating of 71.5 and a slope rating of 136.
The course incorporates three distinct characters across its layout. The central portion of the course features moderately hilly terrain with classic tree-lined fairways typical of Minnesota parkland design. The northern section introduces rolling topography accented by prairie grasses, creating what the 1998 Minnesota Golfer Magazine described as a Scottish-style links character. The southern section of the course offers elevated vistas, with views that include the Shattuck-St. Mary's college-preparatory school campus in the background.
As a public facility, Legacy Golf provides a range of services including season passes, corporate outings, competitive tournaments, leagues, junior golf programs, practice facilities, a pro shop, rental equipment, and a snack bar. The diversity of terrain across the 18 holes gives the course a varied playing experience that transitions notably between the front and back nine.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
