I like Lindrick and had a lovely spring day’s golf there. The course is coming to life and the harsh UK winter is waving goodbye. The gorse is starting to bloom and I really enjoyed my round BUT… as a course that sits inside the GB&I Top 100 (just), I was expecting more to be honest. If there is an easier driving course, I have yet to play it – the fairways are very generous and not that tricky to find. My favourite holes would have to be par-5 4th with a downhill third shot and also the par-4 15th; at the green I loved the old boundary wall down the left side. I wasn’t over the moon about the par-3 18th, which at 200 yards and slightly uphill feels a bit of a slog – take the tee back a little and make it a short par-4 and now you are talking… hoped for a 5-baller but only a 4 for me. NB - jacket and tie from midday in the clubhouse everyday; feels a little pretentious for the 21st century to me.
