Review for Little Aston

Reviewer Score:

Played as two three balls after an East Midlands society trip to Sherwood Forest, Oakmere and the mighty Hollinwell, so a high standard to meet.

We'd been trying to get to Little Aston for years, with varying levels of encouragement from them, so it was a lovely surprise to find it a welcoming and thriving members' club. The facilities and staff were excellent, and the club exudes quality.

Slight aside, but they also have the most fun putting green after the Himalayas, being enthusiastically played by a number of people before lunch who have probably hung up their bags - lovely to see, and something other clubs should consider to keep people involved.

So to the course. The course was a little back and forth and up and down for the first eight holes - great condition, but perhaps lacking in drama.

After the long 9th par 3 things took off - tree lined 4 iron over heather, we then played around the perimeter with more land movement and challenging obstacles like heather, feature trees, ponds and extravagant cross bunkers.

We had a blast and would love to return, but the slightly bland front nine precludes a top ranking.
