The historic and emblematic Llao Llao hotel stands on the natural elevation between Lake Nahuel Huapi and Lake Perito Moreno, giving the impression of having always been there. Symbol of the city of Bariloche and transformed a few years ago to a Hotel, Resort, & Spa, it is chosen as a luxurious destination to live a unique experience. Its distance from the city center, as well as its incredible views, are usually a perfect excuse to relax and enjoy. The design of the building was work of architect Bustillo, and altogether with the hotel, the inclusion of a golf course into the complex was planned from the beginning. Alberto del Solar Dorrego was in charge of designing the first 9 holes in the 30s, and then the remaining 9 would be completed with a redesign by Emilio Serra in 1994. The course unfolds on a terrain with unevenness that is used to conform differences in height between tee and green. The fairways alternate their width, some being generous and others rather narrow. A limited amount of trees divide one fairway from another, favoring spaciousness and panoramic views. Half of the routing takes place at the foot of the hotel (the newest holes), and the other half moves away and is framed among centurie-old trees. Greens with smooth gliding and moderate slopes conclude each hole. The par 70 of the course has around 6000yds, generating a false feeling of comfort, since the variations in height make it difficult to obtain a good score. Several holes stand out and complement each other in a good way. The most memorable ones are located around the corner, and they are 10, 16, and the much photographed 18: a par 3 of 210yds in which you have to fly 100yds over the Nahuel Huapi lake (photo). Either for the golf challenge, or for its natural charm, Llao Llao deserves to be visited for its amazing landscapes and its pleasant routing.
