Lo Romero
Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante- AddressLo Romero Golf, Ctra. Orihuela, km 29, Apdo. Correos 129, 03190 Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante, Spain
Laid out within a property that once functioned as an apple and pear orchard, the course at Lo Romero Golf is an exciting new millennium design which culminates in a par four hole (rated stroke index 1) that’s played to an island green.
Extending to 6,237 metres from the back tees, the course is set out as two returning nines, playing to a par of 72, with water (in the shape of several small ponds) affecting the playing strategy at more than half the holes on the scorecard.
Highlight holes include the slightly left doglegging 2nd (rated 2 on the stroke index) which requires an approach shot played at a 45-degree angle to an offset green that’s protected front right by water with a long bunker also guarding the left side.
On the back nine, the very tight short par four 11th appears easy on paper but there’s a big pine tree to negotiate in the middle of the fairway so the last of the par threes at the 184-metre 15th might offer the best chance of a late birdie, provided your tee shot can hit and hold the raised green.
