The International course at the London Club is a high-class accompaniment to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Heritage course. The International is the layout that you can play here at the London Club and it’s well worth making the effort.

Designed by Ron Kirby under the Nicklaus Design banner, the International opened for play in 1993 and it represents a tough links-like challenge. The gently rolling Kent countryside provides sufficient elevation changes to make things interesting, and from the tips, which measure a little more than 7,000 yards, it’s a really tough challenge for all except the very best golfers.

A valley separates the outward nine from the inward half, giving the International a distinctly different feel and also some spectacular views. Four lakes make watery graves for numerous golf balls and they come into play on five holes. There are also plenty of sand traps in various shapes and sizes, from small pot bunkers to enormous expanses of sand.

“The best par 5 hole I have ever created” is how Ron Kirby describes the 532-yard 4th, which features a fairway that is split in half by a huge bunker, providing a risk and reward option for the bigger hitters. You can choose to play the hole the long way round the lake or you can try the shorter but riskier direct route across the huge lake. Are you up for the challenge?

The International course has hosted both Regional Open Qualifying and the European Tour Qualifying School. However, the biggest event to grace the International’s fairways was the 2014 Volvo World Match Play Championship, which resulted in Finland’s Mikko Ilonen sealing the biggest win of his career.

This is a great venue for a corporate day as the clubhouse is very luxurious, the food excellent and the customer service is of the highest standard. As for the course, well are group really enjoyed it, the course was in great shape for January and the greens were quite superb. Some obvious stand out holes playing over or around water these include two par 3's, the 8th and 12th which are stunning. Its a modern track and is similar to The Oxfordshire, perhaps not as exposed. Would recommend a day here, you won't be disappointed if you like modern courses with big bunkers and lots of water.

Pretty much echo the comments in review below. There are some good holes and its worked into the landscape with good skill. Feels very "nouveau" in most aspects - but its a pleasant day out and the setting is ideal for the coporate day. Its short off the yellows though so pretty easy length wise - athough the greens were good. Par 5's all very reachable - and stand out hole was the 13th.

I played in a corporate day today on this course. It was in immaculate condition. The fairways, the tees and the greens were perfection.I do not like new courses and I can't really put this into any category of good course for me. However the facilities, the welcome, the service and the condition has to be given full credit. In terms of US style courses this is right up there. There are some fun holes and the design has been carefully crafted to give everyone an interesting round. Not my cup of tea, but if this type of course is then I think you will really appreciate the effort the London Club team put into making this as special as it can be.

No where near as good as it thinks it is. 6.5 hours for a round on a Saturday is just stupid. Letting off a corporate group of 65 hackers before us spoilt the round somewhat. Even without that I still would not have been impressed, the design is not that inspiring and the condition not even close to what the green fee suggests it should be. Glad I tried it but don't think I'd ever go back.

The clubhouse and facilities are 5 star and the course condition was very nice, but for me The International was largely forgettable, aside from the two par 3s over the lakes. I think the ranking flatters the course.

The International is a good open course in very good condition. You would expect that for the £110 green fee! Not sure its should be as high as it is on the list though. There is little maturity which marks it down for me, it just doesn't feel like its been there for 100 years like the best courses do. There are also too many shortish par 4's. Thats said the par 5's and 3's are great and the use of the lakes on the course as hazards is well done. (often attractive lakes are out of play on courses for some reason?? They should be in front of the green!) Yes the club house and service is lovely and they look after you like royalty but personally I go for the course and dont really care about the rest of it. It would be a perfect choice for a posh corporate days golf. In short - if someone else is paying, or you are minted give it a go. otherwise there are probably better alternatives to the International.

It's all about opinions and you can put me down as a fan of the International which I think is every bit as good as the Heritage. Granted there are a few par fours that are a little samey, but overall I think the International flows better and was in fabulous condition on each occasion I have played here. Wonderful clubhouse and top service make the London Club one of the better contemporary clubs around the London area.

I have now played both this course and The Heritage and I must say the members here are very lucky to have two wonderful courses at their disposal. Both being very similar but with The International a very good second best. I guess like most who will play here the 12th & 13th holes will be remembered for their water. Take plenty of balls. Very enjoyable.

It is a very decent second course at a location where you are looked after so well. My preference would be the Heritage course as a collection of 18 holes but there are plenty of fine golf holes on the International. Downside is that there are a few par 4's and 5's that are similar (bunkers at about 240-270 out seemed fairly regular). The corner around the 12th and 13th is fabulous with the water your main enemy. I've played both courses and have enjoyed both - certainly for me in the better than most category.

Played the International a couple of times on corporate invites and I have to say I really enjoyed it, although I must confess that I looked lovingly at the Heritage course wishiing I was playing on that instead. Nevertheless this is a cracking layout which tests the best golfers. From the tee of the day it's managable and it's no doubt worth playing if you get the chance.
