The course at Luisita Golf and Country Club was the first designed in the Philippines by Robert Trent Jones Senior back in 1967 and it lies to the north of Manila on an extensive estate that is run by a family related to the late President of the Philippines, Cory Aquino.
Named after the wife of Don Antonio Lopez, head of the Tabacalera company that previously owned the property, the Hacienda Luisita estate extends to over 16,000 acres, a small portion of which has been devoted to the fairways of the golf course.
As might be anticipated of a Trent Jones course, water plays a large part in proceedings here and a winding creek and several lakes ensure that golfers have to contend with water hazards at no fewer than eleven of the holes on the scorecard.
Probably one of the best courses i've played in here in the Philippines, they say it resembles Augusta since the designer Robert Trent Sr. was one of the designers of the fabled golf course, but personally this particular course has its own identity. The noteworthy Par 3 signature 17th hole the boasts at the very least 200 yards facing a lake and a false green front would rattle any seasoned golfer.
