Mainzer

A modern design from Christoph Städler, the golf complex at Mainzer Golfclub offers a variety of golfing options, including an 18-hole layout, a 6-hole short course, a floodlit, double-sided driving range and a practice area with six greens.

Opened for play in 2007, the course extends to just over 6000 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72 (35 out then 37 in), with holes arranged as returning nines. Holes 1 to 10 and the 18th are routed around an old stone quarry, with the remaining holes laid out on more open ground to the west of the property. Water hazards feature on a few holes, most notably to the right of the fairway on the par five 5th and to the left of the green on both the par four 17th and par four 18th.

Other highlights include the right bending par four 3rd (played along the edge of a ravine that runs through the estate) and the left doglegging 7th, which is rated stroke index 1. On the longer back nine, the par five 11th is a tough nut to crack (with a lake to the left off the tee and out of bounds running all the way down the right) and it’s followed soon after by the par three 13th (the only short hole on the inward half) which plays to a heavily sand-protected green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
