I first visited this one 8 years ago hosting a 36 customers outing but was not able to play. 3 months ago I visited it again and in a sunny day I only could take a picture on 10th tee with Sierra Nevada at the end of it. And finally yesterday on another sunny day I was able to play it and the balance is way better than I had imagined.
The course is yet set very close to the airport but in these Covid-19 times, there was noise but not that much to bother. And I have played some courses near busy airports (Doral, Son Gual, Campo de la Ciudad de BsAs, Cañuelas GC) and I have to say when playing golf I don’t care much about that noise.
The piece of land is pretty flat on a great part of it but some fairways have some undulations’ (the older ones) maybe shaped during the Harry Colt design. There are some level changes on holes 4, 5, 12, 14, 15, 16 & 17 which is the oldest part of the course.
Laterals on the fairways are usually trees, many eucalyptus ones and mostly pines from 5th till the end of the round and the floor there is sandy and similar to native waste areas. You can find the ball and play it, so penalties for missed shots is not that big.
It is very close to the Mediterranean Sea and this makes wind a factor. In my case it was a calm day but all the same some air picked up during the round and it was a challenge to identify it as it changed from hole to hole.
Greens are very good in designed, slopes, pin positions and rolled at a decent 11 at least, which is quite good for a public municipal course. Fairways play pretty firm and in good shape although they were not pristine like Valderrama or Real Sotogrande, but although still under winter rules time there was no need of placing the ball or cleaning mud from it.
Bunkers well maintained and predictable which is always very good and fair, there is no extra penalty for missing there.
I like the challenge on 4th and 5th par 4s, tough tee shots and not short at all and then par 3 11th playing over 200yds and par 5s 12th and 14th were very good as well.
A very enjoyable round, a course I would love to play in tournament conditions and for sure well worth to be included in your Costa del Sol trip.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
