Mangais

The course at the Mangais Golf Resort is located in Barra do Kwanza, in the municipality of Belas, around eighty kilometres south from Angola’s capital city Luanda. Designed by Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva, it first opened for play as an 18-hole layout in 2005.

Routed around a flat landscape close to where the Kwanza River empties into the Atlantic, the course is set out as two returning 9-hole circuits, extending to just over 7,000 yards from the back markers, with water coming into play at more than half the holes on the scorecard.

Highlight holes on the front nine include the right veering par five 5th (rated stroke index 2) with water to the left and bunkers to the right as the fairway approaches the green, along with the par three 8th which requires a tee shot over a large wetland area to the green.

On the inward half, the long par four 13th is another tough hole (rated stroke index 1), played to a green that’s protected front left by a large, irregularly-shaped bunker, while the par four closing hole features more water along the right side of the fairway as it heads towards the home green.
