Utah's newest private golf destination features Tiger Woods' inaugural mountain course design at Jordanelle Ridge near Park City. The TGR Design layout promises spectacular 360-degree vistas across the Uinta Mountains, Jordanelle Reservoir, and Deer Valley Resort, creating an exclusive alpine golf experience.
Nestled on Utah's Jordanelle Ridge east of Park City, Marcella Club represents a significant milestone in golf course architecture as Tiger Woods' first mountain course design. The private club's championship layout, created by TGR Design, promises to establish new standards for alpine golf when it opens in 2025.
The vision for Marcella Club emerged as part of the ambitious Mayflower Mountain Resort development, marking North America's first world-class alpine village development since 1981. Tiger Woods and his TGR Design team are designing their first mountain course, for the private Marcella Club, close to the upcoming Mayflower Mountain Resort in Park City, Utah, representing a collaborative effort between luxury hospitality and championship golf design.
Tiger Woods reveals this will be "the first mountain course design for Tiger and TGR Design", adding significance to the project within his architectural portfolio. The development began construction in 2024, with the golf course scheduled for completion in 2025 as the centrepiece of the broader Marcella Club community.
The 18-hole layout, the first of two planned for the club, will traverse valleys, groves of trees and ridgelines across the dramatic Jordanelle Ridge terrain. The TGR Design philosophy emphasises strategic variety whilst maintaining accessibility across skill levels.
"The course will provide a stern test for low handicap golfers, yet also present a fun, family friendly experience to allow individuals of all skill levels to come together and enjoy the course", according to the official TGR Design statement. This approach reflects Woods' commitment to creating engaging golf regardless of handicap level.
The design "will feature generous landing areas helping players to keep the ball in play while still challenging players with strategic choices and angles off the tee for the best opportunities to score". The green complexes will vary in size and contouring to reinforce tee shot strategy, with closely mown surrounds encouraging creative recovery shots.
The course's defining characteristic centres on its "unparalleled 360-degree views" spanning the Uinta Mountains, Jordanelle Reservoir, Deer Valley Resort, and Heber Valley with Mount Timpanogos visible in the distance. This panoramic backdrop creates one of golf's most spectacular visual experiences.
The routing takes advantage of "incredible long-range vistas while also incorporating contrasting intimate valleys between the ridges to create a truly unique and memorable golf experience". This design approach balances grand mountain vistas with more secluded, intimate holes within the natural valley systems.
The architectural strategy emphasises working with the existing topography rather than extensive earth movement, respecting the site's natural mountain character whilst creating strategic golf holes.
Marcella Club joins Utah's premier mountain golf corridor, positioned strategically among the region's established championship venues.
Within 16km (10 miles): Park City Golf Club and Canyons Golf Course provide accessible public options for same-day variety.
16-32km (10-20 miles): Victory Ranch (21 miles from Park City), featuring Rees Jones design with Provo River frontage and mountain vistas. Promontory Club offers two championship layouts - Pete Dye's Canyon Course and Jack Nicklaus' Painted Valley Course - both consistently ranked among Utah's finest.
32-48km (20-30 miles): Glenwild Golf Club & Spa, designed by Tom Fazio, sits at 2,100 metres elevation with dramatic alpine backdrops. Red Ledges features Jack Nicklaus Signature design with substantial elevation changes across challenging mountain terrain.
Natural Combinations: Park City's golf corridor allows multi-course holidays combining Marcella Club with established championship venues. Victory Ranch and Promontory Club create particularly complementary experiences with their established tournament pedigree.

Marcella Club will offer 500 exclusive memberships, with 350 reserved for Jordanelle Ridge homesites and 150 for Marcella Mountain properties. Advanced reservation planning will be essential given the limited membership structure.
The club's integration with Deer Valley Resort provides ski-in, ski-out access during winter months, creating year-round luxury amenities for members and guests.
Salt Lake City International Airport: 59km (37 miles), 40-45 minutes via I-80 and US-40. Multiple shuttle services operate between SLC and Park City, with private transfers available for golf groups.
Public Transport: Utah Transit Authority's PC-SLC Connect bus provides scheduled service from Salt Lake City Airport to Park City, requiring approximately 45 minutes with limited daily schedules.
Car Rental: Recommended for multi-course holidays, providing flexibility across Park City's golf corridor. Winter driving conditions may require additional travel time during snow periods.
Parking: On-site parking will be available for members and guests, integrated into the luxury clubhouse facilities.
Spring: Course opens following snow melt, typically May depending on elevation and weather patterns.
Summer: Peak season with optimal playing conditions and long daylight hours maximising the spectacular mountain vistas.
Autumn: Shoulder season offering excellent conditions with autumn foliage enhancing the already dramatic mountain backdrops.
Winter: Course closes for snow season, with ski amenities available at adjacent Mayflower Mountain Resort.
Marcella Club represents more than Tiger Woods' architectural debut in mountain terrain - it establishes a new paradigm for luxury alpine golf. "This location is uniquely beautiful and the course will offer engaging play for every ability," said Woods, emphasising the site's exceptional natural characteristics.
The combination of TGR Design's strategic philosophy with Utah's dramatic mountain landscapes creates anticipation for a course that balances championship golf with spectacular scenery. When complete in 2025, Marcella Club will likely establish new standards for mountain golf course design, offering an exclusive gateway to Utah's premier golf corridor whilst providing the luxury amenities expected at North America's finest private clubs.
