Mayfield Sand Ridge (Sand Ridge)

Sand Ridge is an elegant course located in the western foothills of the Appalachian Mountains around 30 miles from Cleveland. Designed by Tom Fazio, great care was taken to construct the course in harmony with its surroundings in such an environmentally sensitive area.

When Fairmount Minerals decided to build a golf course from 300 acres left over from their 500-acre mining site, they decided to let the land rule the course, not the other way round. The outcome is a course unlike any other in the State, one where golfers remark upon the tranquility of playing at Sand Ridge – there is no housing on the property for instance, so noise is never an issue in or around the course.

The rivers Cuyahoga and Chagrin rise in the 150 acres of wetlands at Sand Ridge, providing a perfect habitat for the wide variety of plants, animals and birds in the area. In this rich and mature landscape, amongst the rolling hills, the fairways are mainly wide and tree lined, putting surfaces are large and many are multi tiered with gentle undulations. There are several water holes which blend beautifully into the course routing and from tee to green, the course is always kept in immaculate condition.

The Sand Ridge Golf Club merged in 2006 with Mayfield Country Club from South Euclid forming the new Mayfield Sand Ridge Club allowing members of both establishments to use the facilities on offer at either location.

As if one merger was not enough, Cleveland’s venerable Oakwood Club amalgamated with Mayfield Sand Ridge Club in 2019, forgoing its Golden Age Donald Ross-designed course in the process.
