Medellin - Llanogrande

The 18-hole Llanogrande course at Club Campestre Medellin is just one of several sporting options available to members on an expansive 200-acre campus located a short 45-minute drive from the city centre. Founded in 1924, the club has developed over the years as an enormous equestrian centre with an adjacent lake for water sports residing alongside tennis courts, swimming pools and a hotel.

Extending to 7,100 yards from the tips, the course plays to a par of 72, with holes laid out as two returning nines. Water comes into play at around half the holes on the card, especially at the 10th, 11th and 12th which are routed around the edges of the 700x1200-metre lake. An unusual feature located around several tee boxes (especially on the front nine) are sandy waste areas – which are more aesthetic than strategic, of course.

Highlight holes include the par four 3rd (skirting a pond on the inside of the dogleg as the fairway veers left); the par three 8th (with out of bounds to the left of the hole); the par five 11th (featuring the lake to the right of the fairway and a pond to the front left of the green); and the left bending par four 18th which requires an accurate tee shot through a very narrow chute of trees followed by a long approach to a heavily sand-protected home green.
