Milburn

Founded in 1917, Milburn Country Club is home to the oldest course in Kansas City. This challenging William Langford design has hosted a number of state and national events, including The Watson Challenge, which is sponsored by Tom Watson.

The Langford Cup was inaugurated in 2007 to honour Milburn’s original course architect, William B. Langford. It’s a Ryder Cup-style competition pitching a 16-man Milburn team against two other clubs with highly regarded Langford designs, namely Happy Hollow Club from Omaha, Nebraska and Wakonda Club from Des Moines, Iowa.

Club members have twice suffered the loss of their clubhouse to fire. The first time was back in 1932, when “an army of club employees, caddies, and members rushed into the burning building, picked up the club’s grand piano and lugged it to safety.” In 2010, a massive fire again destroyed the building but a new one re-opened three years later.

All bunkers and tees on the course were then reconstructed by architect Todd Clark of CE Golf Design in 2015.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
