Mira Vista Country Club, near Forth Worth, features a Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish course that aims to suit both designers’ personalities. For example, it was undoubtedly Weiskopf who suggested the No. 12 par three replicate the famous Postage Stamp at Royal Troon (where he won The Open, his only major).
Perhaps the former pro’s personality began to overtake the project before Morrish stepped in and created No. 18, dubbed “Jay’s Revenge.” Sounds intimidating, and the club feeds into that paranoia by describing the hole as “things aren't always what they appear. Jay asked that we not reveal the secret of this hole.” Hmm.
One item that represents both Weiskopf and Morrish as a collective is a drivable par four, which the duo guarantees for every one of its designs. At Mira Vista, the candidate is No. 16, which tips out at 315 yards. A powerful draw could get you on in one, but a series of pot bunkers up the right-hand side could get you on in three or more.
