Mission Hills (Pete Dye)

Opened in 2007, the Pete Dye layout at Mission Hills Shenzhen was built in tandem with the Schmidt Curley design team. Its woodland setting is characterised by sleepered bunkers and undulating green complexes.

The course appeared in The Rolex World’s Top 1000 Golf Courses with the following edited narrative extract:

“The Dye course is a great example of how a sub-7,000-yard track can still challenge the accomplished player. It punches well above its weight by incorporating thick rough, railroad tie-supported bunkers and extremely contoured putting surfaces. A golf-only property, the Dye does still offer its fair share of birdie opportunities, especially on the early holes which allow players to ease themselves into their rounds.

Occupying rolling, rather than mountainous, topography the course begins to find its teeth around the turn and ends in fine fashion – the 18th is a marvellous par five that over the years has brought both joy and misery to those who have played it. Don’t be fooled: the Dye looks tempting enough but watch out when the wind gets up. The tricky greens can take control.”
