Modry Las Golf Resort (Modry Las)
The Gary Player Design company has been busy on a number of projects in central Europe in the new millennium and the Modry Las course in north west Poland – an area famed for its rolling landscape, dense woodland and crystal clear lakes – is positive proof of its activities.
The region is a popular summer resort area offering a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, from water sports to fishing, horse riding to hunting. The construction of the golf course precedes a residential development at Modry Las Golf Resort that will result in the discreet placement of two hundred houses around the 320-acre estate.
The 18-hole layout is laid out in two returning loops of nine holes with the opening three holes each doglegging right round Lake Raduñ, as does the home hole at the end of the round. Water only comes into play at two other holes (14 and 15) so don’t get the idea that water hazards predominate in this captivating woodland setting.
Only opened in the summer of 2009 by Gary Player, along with Miroslaw Drzewiecki, the Polish minister of sport, Modry Las has been described by the Black Knight as, “a classy golf course carved in a beautiful, natural landscape with mature pine forests, spring fed lakes and fields of wildflowers – just an incredible setting.”
A new short 9-hole course designed by Theo Geertshuis was introduced at the club in 2015.
