Mold is one of the shorter 18-hole courses in Wales, measuring less than 5,600 yards, but Fred Hawtree designed the course at Mold Golf Club and it’s a very pleasant parkland layout that will challenge you all the way to beat its par of 67.
Situated close to the Clwydian Hills on the western side of the market town of Mold, the course is actually the third one constructed by the club. The first was built on parkland at Hafod Moor in 1909 then the second was laid out three years later at Padeswood before a third and final move was made to Pantymwyn in the late 1920s.
There are six short holes and only two par fives on the scorecard. Most of the remaining par fours are comfortably in reach in two shots but beware the sting in the tail at the last – measuring 485 yards, the left doglegged 18th hole (appropriately called “Long Leg”) is easily the longest par four on the course and might potentially ruin a tidy looking score!
