Folklore has it that pirates and smugglers once buried their loot at Money Hill Plantation, but life is more genteel these days at the Golf & Country Club where Ron Garl laid out a challenging, undulating course for a private community.

Money Hill

Set within an enormous 12,500-acre woodland property, which was once entirely devoted to tung oil production, Money Hill Golf & Country Club opened for business in 1998, with a Ron Garl-designed 18-hole layout as the sporting centrepiece of a small residential community.

The course occupies hilly terrain, providing constant changes in elevation throughout the round and the fairways are routed around the north and east shores of Goodyear Lake (a large spring-fed lake named after the family that developed the plantation) where the finishing holes are laid out.

Highlight holes include the 198-yard 4th (the longest par three, with a long water carry), the 457-yard 10th (downhill, but still the toughest hole on the scorecard), and the signature 162-yard 16th, played to a long, narrow peninsula green set into the side of the lake.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
