I know literally nothing about the Shores prior to Strantz's, shall we call it, revival. What I do know is what the Shores is now, and it's a sensational golf course.

The first few holes wander their way through houses, nevertheless good holes, but the golf course for me begins at the drivable par 4 fifth. From the fifth until the sixteenth, you are weaving your way through the coastal dunes (same dunes as the front nine at Spyglass and the interior holes at Cypress). The best stretch of holes are nine through thirteen, which as I understand, is into the prevailing wind. Par's of three-five-three-five-four with the par 3 twelfth being the star of the show, with a panoramic tee shot.

The course is Strantz at his finest. Everything seems to have just risen from the earth. Nothing feels synthetic. It's as if the Shores had been placed there for Strantz to discover and put his idiosyncratic finishing touches on. MPCC as a whole is a club that most golfers would love to be at. Hard to imagine the Dunes (ranked higher) is better but with two "Top 100" at your disposable, and a few others down the road, this place is about as close to golf heaven as you can get.
