Morgado Golf Course

Morgado Golf & Country Club is one of the more recent courses that are being laid out on the Algarve and is one of the tougher layouts. It has an imposing view of the Monchique Mountains as a northerly backdrop the course is laid out through the valleys, lakes and vineyards, creating an impressive 18-hole test.

It was designed by Russell Talley of European Golf Design and made available for play in 2003. Mordago is a young golf course that needs some time to mature, but the layout is challenging that extends to 6,400m from the tees. The most challenging holes are near the middle of every nine-hole loop, interspersed by the 12-hole par-4 that is short and a little. Five par fives at holes 3, 7, 10 13, and 16 - are a part of a par of 73 on the course, featuring holes on the 9th hole, a short par four and 12th.

The course is operated through NAU Hotels, the Morgado course is one of three layouts with 18 holes which are owned by the firm. Alamos is the third. Alamos course, which opened in 2006, is located next to Morgado located in the foothills of Monchique and extends up to 5,700 meters, playing up to a par of 70. The Salgados course, which was unveiled back in 1994 is situated near the beach in Albufeira which is a 45-minute drive away.

After a gap of six years in the past, in the year 2006, Open de Portugal reappeared on the professional circuit for men in Morgadoin 2017 with the Englishman Matt Wallace winning the event. The club later was the host for the following two competitions, including the Australian Dimitrios Papadatos claiming the title in 208. He was then and a year later, Adrian Meronk from Poland.
