I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and layout of Mortonhall. It has a nice mix of challenging and shorter holes, all with different character and defences. There are some beautiful views from the elevated tees across the city which really enhance the day. I found the course very well thought out and recently renovations of some bunkers (so I was told) have placed them in some thought provoking places for strategy. I really enjoyed the range of shots the course asks you to play on approach. From woods and long irons into delicate chips into small greens, there is always something to keep you interested. I'd say the short, well guarded par 3 10th and par 5 12th, with a wonderful elevated drive, were my favourites. However, the course was engaging all the way through and was in fantastic condition. Definitely worth a visit!
