Moseley GC is a technical challenge with several strategically placed bunkers often leaving you between clubs on the tee box. We had a very warm welcome from the pro shop, who took the time to talk us through the facilities on the site, and point out some of the key holes / moments on the layout. You are made to feel like a day member here, as opposed to another green fee in the tills.
The course was a little burnt out in places with the warm weather recently, but the greens were running to perfection, some of the quickest surfaces I've played on this year. Tee boxes, bunkers and the rough all well maintained and manicured.
The track opens with a short par 4, a large elevated green well guarded with bunkers requires an accurate second. What follows are 4 tough holes, with the narrow uphill second, long par 4 3rd, and the two signature holes of the course (4 and 5). The 4th a good length par 3 with an amphitheatre of trees, and the 5th a long drive over the lake, make sure your drive goes high enough to cover the tree line. The 6th is also a memorable par 3, coming off the top of the hill and back in towards the middle of the property. Following these, the holes loops back around towards the clubhouse before you head back out on the back 9. I particularly enjoyed the 18th, with two well struck shots this is a great eagle opportunity with the old clubhouse serving as the backdrop.
A really great value for money course, the club has an intimate feel and the members really make you feel part of the club during your round here. The only drawback we felt the course had was due to it being situated in the middle of a busy town and housing estates, on pretty much every hole you can hear cars / sirens and ice cream vans which is somewhat off putting at times. This aside it's a club with great character, smart architecture and use of the land give the track good pace and no 2 holes are the same. Well worthy of it's current ranking!
