Moss & Rygge

Englishman Jeremy Turner designed the course at Moss & Rygge, just south of Oslo, and the layout is routed across former farmland which lies close to the dramatic Oslofjord bay.

Opened in 2003, the course measures a shade over 7,000 yards from the back markers and it plays to every inch of its sizeable dimensions. The round starts and ends with double doglegged par fives and, indeed, there are three such long holes (one over 600 yards) in the first seven played.

There is a lovely stretch of holes from the 12th to 16th where natural ponds and streams add both beauty and danger in equal measure. The best of these holes are the short par four 13th which has a pond to the right of the green (and a stream running across the fairway in front of the putting surface) and the 156-yard par three 14th where the tee shot has to carry all the way to an island green.

Norway has over 150 courses and many, like Moss & Rygge, close from mid/late October until March so don’t expect to play too much winter golf in this part of the world!
