Musket Ridge

Musket Ridge Golf Club was the final design to come from the pen of Joe Lee prior to his passing during 2003. It is appropriate that he got to consider the views across Maryland's Catoctin Mountains during the project, ending his career with perhaps his most visually-stimulating course.

The route hugs the top, and occasionally plays along the edges of a mountaintop that descends down into Catoctin Creek. As would be his calling card, especially toward the tail end of his career, large bunker complexes command attention at Musket Ridge (at least when the mountains in the distance don’t distract). The enormous sand hazard guarding the inside of the par five No. 10 will stand out most, similar sand traps exist throughout the round.

That said, more thought should be given to finding the proper line into the greens, as the curvaceous putting surfaces may be the true trouble during your round.

Those looking for a public golf trip to Maryland may consider playing Musket Ridge before driving two miles down the road to Maryland National Golf Club, another gem on the Top100 list.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
